The overall winners of this year's BiG Challenge will go on the trip of a lifetime to Hong Kong, an international hub for business and innovation.
This exciting announcement was made by Stephen Sly, Office Managing Partner at DLA Piper, at the prize giving ceremony for the winners of BiG Challenge Xtra. Leader of the Council, Councillor Paul Scriven handed out certificates to the winners and runners up of the competition before the destination of the trip was revealed.
Following the announcement, the audience was treated to a live link up to the Hong Kong office during which Stephen’s international colleagues revealed what they have planned for the lucky students. The itinerary includes a visit to the Senior Court of Appeal and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, followed by a tour of the beautiful Victoria Harbour on a private 60 foot yacht.
Before the BiG Trip was announced, eleven students were presented with certificates by Councillor Scriven and Chairman of the Local Economy Board, David Grey MBE.
Stephen Sly explained why Hong Kong was chosen as the winners’ prize and what he expects from the winning team:
“Hong Kong has one of the most embedded entrepreneurial cultures of any established economy, which makes it a natural and obvious choice for us. We thought it was an appropriate destination because it shows there is no limit to what any student in Sheffield can aspire to.
“I want the winning team to demonstrate an ability to work cooperatively and bring out the best in each member. All of the teams should be dynamic, they should take reasonable risks and above all they should have fun and enjoy the competition.”
Councillor Scriven had an inspiring message for the students involved in the BiG Challenge:
“You are the future of this city and in the next few years I will be picking up the Yellow Pages and looking up your companies; companies that are made in Sheffield and are driving the city forward.
“Our aim in Sheffield is to make this the easiest city in which to set up and keep running a successful business. As Leader of the Council, I am proud to say that the entrepreneurial spirit shown by you proves that the people of Sheffield have what it takes to meet this aim.”
